development goals 2022-2000

please note -some of this timeline is approximate - we welcome sincere corrections chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk ; it should be noted for the UN this is a process; some idea are edited for 2 yeras before publication dates; terminolgy also morphs

2000 belately un decided it should be the world's hub for millennium Development Goals; i believe a final version of MDGS was published 2001 and at that time the editor in chief was malloch brown

later we can see that ban ki-moon says this of the MDGS  “An investment in the MDGs is an investment in growth, prosperity and the markets of the future — a win-win proposition.” – H.E. Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General taken for 2010 report!

there were a lot of issues of the mdgs: just 2 examples that concern us - education's goal was every whild should go to primary; this resulted into billions of aid going into primary but5 virtually no support for livelihood and othere education/apprenticeships from 11 up; as early as 2007 some pracftioners were saying we are designing 21st c education so that half of all youth will be unemployable whatever age they leave the education system big corporations offering lifetime employment were disappearing; more and more youth would need to develop their own starup or informal emplyment busienss networks; none of this was helpe by teachers in biggest nations not blending virtual and real (this only seriously started happening at every grade when covid struck in 2020; to take one example in the usa the elading attempt to offere digital learning was onje charity khan academy; back in 1984 our futuyre 2025report debated how sustainability o9f milennils would depend on transforming education - we had assumed from aroiund 2000 a part of the hwole national buidet would go increasingly into open virtual

abnother issue is the un became an epicentre of global compact ie partenrships forming around big corporations and big go0vernment - known by teh acronym PPP - publicv priate oartenrships ; i first started covering the risks of green washing in a book called world clas brands written 1989 ; research for the world fisrt database at mit on society's demands from big multinational companies as they were in the 1980s showed the need to move from product to corporate branding - brand architecture was defined as abrdroom process- some companies need to merge thousands of brands designed separately by product anc dountry; other corporate brands had no meaning to9 global audiences - in sponsoring worldwide chgarit5ies etc which corpoirates were bgeren wshing and which were genuinely integrating sustainability of corporate and tyhe civil society's network

it was agreed the sdgs needed a far more sophisticated framework launched as 17 syustainability develoipment goials in seot 2015 (the last major process of its kind under ban ki moon's rule; aslo celebrated by the pope's visit to the general assmebly aroun sept 2015; from late 2015 Guterres took over

there are a liot o9f debates that can be had about 17 goals - eg since the public cant both recall and behave in 17 directions what does a 4 or 5 factor version look like - and idnmeed is every goal integrated with goal 1 ending poverty (with an interpretation of designing a world so whichever communi8ty next baby is born is she has a fair chnace t5o thrive) - while tehre can be many actions to mitigate poverty when someone like keynes concluded the overal systems purpose of teh economist is nto end poverty it is our ujderstanding that he meant from birth and out of everty GPS!

pretty much every tear of the 15 countodown to will teh milelnnials be teh susrainability generation major unga updates have been released ; it is now amditeed that eg on climate and education some countries are over 50 yeras away; perhaps the question bgeomes by 2030 is their an inetgrated human system that is gravitaing directionallye evry goal out of every place  -in 2021 unga guteres issue d  a common agenda report ; it can be intertreted as saying a future summit in 20-23 will aim to finmalise where bhi9s lifes work is graviatining ; unlike cop26-28 on eg climate that the un convenes ariound nearly 200 nations as primary leaders of humanity's goals - it is expecetd that 2023 will include techno9lo0gustsb lewading eg #aiforgood; youth nominations on which civil society networks areb most worth studying as schools curricula for millennails and tehri teachers as well as a review of tech applied to every goal - so eg fintech is goal 1 agritech is goal 2 (and blends with many climate compoents)

health tecdh is goal 3

edtech is goal 4 but is it learner cenetric

goal 5 can be framned as do civil societyy networks value ssutainabgility expoenetials traingularise dialogues betweenn publiuc-private participants or always get left out as not being so high level as far as glonl's most powerful decision makers spend everyones time and money

If sdgs 1-5 are 5 gravitiesd then a 6th factor is climate and insfrastructure integration both real and digital; while there are other 6 dimensionl ways to audit 17 goals 50 years of women ending vilage poverty can be reported mainly along tese 6 inetractind dimensiuons - its absolutely valied to ask how you factor teh 17 gaols and to represent which segmant of the enarly 8 billion beings participating in whether 2020s is tipping future generations to extinction or to millennials as first sustainability generation
